So, this might be disappointing news.

But I am not a very naturally patient person.

Even with all this meditation, I still lose my mind sometimes.

(But here’s my best sales pitch, anyways: I’m pretty sure I would be IMPOSSIBLE to be around without any kind of meditation practice!)

What can I say?

I’m firey. I’m hot-to-trot.

I seem to have a lot of explosive rage bubbling under the surface on any given day. (Anyone else?)

I’m also stretched too thin most of the time. A lot of people count on me to take care of their needs.

It feels like the pressure of everyday responsibilities meeting the hot tap of passion and desire means that I might run out of patience at any moment! Watch out!

My meditation teacher Pema tells me everyone can be positively SNAGGED IN AN INSTANT! The Buddhists even have a word for it called shenpa.

:: Cue the deep exhale, it’s not just me. It’s our human nature. Even the enlightened ones feel like I do too! ::

So you never know when the sound of my husband sucking on a cough drop in bed is going to make my blood boil.

Or my kids whining and antagonizing each other to high holy hell at 6:45am on a school morning is going to make me scream growl (“scream growl” - it’s a real thing!).

Or an unassuming, adult human telling me something that bruises my ego can make me silently fume and inner-monologue-defend-myself into a corner of utter retreat and self-proclaimed failure!

You never know when you might need an Emergency Patience Protocol!

Reflect ::

LET IT OUT GURL. What’s your current shenpa hook? What can snag you at any moment? Send you down a rabbit hole or into BURN IT ALL DOWN MODE? Make you want to retreat, shut down, or numb out with your phone / distraction / cannabis / half a bottle of rosé?

You can journal about it (you’ll feel better if you do, I can 92.7% guarantee this). Chat about it in a voice memo to your bestie. (96.9% success rate). Or leave a comment below sharing your own humanity (98.5% chance of feeling less alone if you do!).
