Different decisions feel different in our bodies.

Working in Big Law felt like clenched fists, locked jaw, hunched shoulders, breath held. (Not to mention the constriction of waddling around in those JCrew pencil skirts — anyone remember those early 2010s colorful paisley prints? — and 4-inch high heels 🙄).

Whereas the decision to quit Big Law felt like a deep exhale, a sense of deep relaxation and ease, a softening. Like being barefoot outside on a perfectly sunny Spring day.

My body held a truth that my mind couldn’t ignore.

And in the early years after quitting Big Law, I could quite literally feel the lawyer leaving my body. These days, I’m embodying that feeling (& barefoot-ness) in my day-to-day work.

I had the deep privilege of teaching meditation and relaxation and yoga in Washington DC for nearly a decade. When I taught these classes, especially on weekday evenings after work, I could see stress leave people’s bodies. Shoulders dropped. Brows unfurled. Faces smoothed and softened. Breath slowed.

This 15-minute meditation guides you into your own experience of how decisions land in your own body. If you’re at a crossroads of choosing between some expected “should” option and one that feels right in your gut (but makes less sense to the people around you), this meditation is for YOU.
